VirginiaStreakers and other darlings !! ;-D I’m looking forward to our 9th June pow-wow !! So !! => I need to type this up …
Then deep-dive into my next book (which I can tell y’all about later) !! ;-D Right now it’s still all about Babs Queensolver and that Demon creature that she conjured up …
Darling Niki ;-D
Do y’all remember what I said last time about Niki de St Phalle ?! How her artwork could be used to inspire set design for how Demon got born ?! ;-D Well, I later realised that Niki’s “Tarot Garden” in Italy would be the perfect spot for that !! ;-D Not suggesting that we actually perform the skit …

Jus’ sayin’ that — given Lauren‘s penchant for Italy — perhaps we could go together one day. ;-D A fun musing if nothing else. Also … there’s a new French film about Niki which I need to check out soon. OK, back to Babs …
AR-15 June ;-D
Righty-o, Virginia … are y’all are able to determine a favorite character from Demon Copperhead … ?! A tall order, I know. As for me, I need to short-list Aunt June. . I love her integrity and was therefore relieved when things fizzled w/ her Ken Doll Kent (good riddance !!). I hereby nominate AR-15 June for the US Supreme Court !! I dog-eared this passage and wonder if y’all recall it too (pg 291):

Go Emmy … our gal w/ the Hello Kitty tote bag containing severed heads !! ;-D

OMG !! Having no idea what an AR-15 looks like, I found the image above and it’s so scary that I shivered at the thought of displaying it here. But as this is Bab‘s metaphor for Aunt June (as described by Emmy) … I’m trying to perform a brave show-n-tell by putting it here. E-gads Virginia … I must now transition to another fave …
“Kentucky Derby” Angus ;-D
Did y’all enjoy how Babs wove her cuss words into this book just so … ?!?! How ‘ bout that trophy-winner Angus (page 402):

Go Angus !! ;-D I loved her non-conformist get-ups & “I don’t give a what” aura. I was totally sold on her older-sister antagonism w/ Demon. Wasn’t there a scene when the 2 of them needed to climb onto the roof to clear the gutter of leaves ?! I was so nervous that that I had to put the book down. Thank gawd Babs didn’t injure either of them at that point … the precarity was there … ;-D
I loved how those 2 hung out at home and volleyed incessant insults at one another. That sibling relationship is essential to the passage above … D’s grandma up the pole due to Angus … and Demon just letting A get on w/ it … LMFAO !! ;-D
As such … VirginiaStreakers … I ask y’all this one outright … did that last scene in the car make y’all uncomfortable ?! Oh yuck … we all 3 have brothers so do y’all see what I mean … ?! I’m interested to know if you reacted the same way as I did …
Can we briefly discuss that aspect of the ending ?! ;-D
Gaia
Finally Lady-Bears !! To extricate myself from that incestuous car scene :-0, I’m going to gaze @ this gorgeous passage about Demon‘s love of nature, as explained while he was living in the city (pg 514):

Do y’all recall that I wrote ’bout us 3 reading this book against the beautiful backdrops of our current homes ?! Well. I sure as all hell meant it. And check this out => I spoke to Jenny-Jo (who lives in Rocky Mountain High-Hiiiii Colorado ;-D) just the other day, and she commented on just how loud the bird gossip was on my side of the line. ;-D
True story !! JJ will be in the PRC (yuppers, that place ;-D) when we VirginiaStreakers speak on 9th June … so she won’t join us. But I recommended Demon for whenever she needs a good read. I’ll try to chat w/ her before her birfday (9ff Juuuuuuly). ;-D
Finally … a few sundry bits before I log off:
- Poisonwood – Are you working on it, Lauren ?! I think I gave away my copy a long time ago. But I do think I remember it. I believe it was set in the FR-speaking-Belgian-Congo. … is that right ?! The narrative from the standpoint of a missionary family … each chapter written in 1st person w/ rotating perspectives. Holy smokes. What a book !! :-0
- Yearbook – Many thanx Beans for telling me about Brookie‘s YB experience. I am inordinately proud of her. To this day, I am in awe of my YB advisor, Kris Evans (Cal & UCLA grad). Thanx also for Brookie‘s graduation card … Loyola, eh ?! ;-D Upholding the traditional north-south(-vice-versa) migration of young BEST Coast stinkers. ;-D Is Jefe excited to hop down south & closer to the Pacific Ocean from time-to-time … or am I confusing my enthusiasm w/ his ?! ;-D
- Babel – Margot … I too voted Babel as Cal’s Q4 / autumn read !! ;-D Even if the larger group doesn’t collectively elect it, I might still try to get my hands on it at some point. ;-D
